Dear Friends and Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to attend the Annual GIBB Meeting 2026. The Conference will be held from June 11 (starting at 2 pm) and June 13 midday, 2026 in Udine. We look forward to hosting this scientific event.
The meeting is open to our scientific community, and everyone with interest in bioenergetics research, with its unique format, primarily based on oral presentations given by Junior Scientists (PhD Students and Postdocs). No poster session will be organized.
The meeting will open with a “lectio magistralis” by the winner of the “Medaglia Giovanni Felice Azzone” award. The opening lectures of the meeting sessions will be delivered by distinguished Invited Speakers.
The meeting is meant as an opportunity for young researchers who will give oral presentations. The best six presentations (three for PhD Students and three for Post Docs) will be awarded. The program is currently in progress, since it will be assembled on the basis of participants. It is therefore important that you carefully match the deadlines, so that we can optimize the Meeting schedule.
The final Program will be e-mailed and posted on our website after all abstracts and registrations have been received (early deadline is May 11, 2026).

Ahead of the Annual Meeting, a Summer School on “Mitochondria in Health and Disease” will take place between June 9 (2 pm) and June 11 (noon) at the same venue. Primarily aimed at PhD students and postdocs at the University of Udine, the event also warmly welcomes participation from junior GIBB members. The lectures will be given by senior GIBB members and other eminent scientists. The program of the Summer School will be available on the GIBB website.
The Meeting will be held at the Superior School of the University of Udine, located in Palazzo Garzolini – Di Toppo Wassermann in the historic center of Udine.
The weather during the Meeting is expected to be pleasantly warm, offering a great opportunity to visit the city—famous for Tiepolo's paintings—and its surroundings, renowned for their hospitality and superb food and wine traditions. The program also includes a welcome cocktail and a social dinner.
Accommodation
Udine offers a good range of accommodation, both in the city center and the immediate surroundings. The following hotels are conveniently located near the venue: Ambassador Palace, Astoria Hotel Italia, Hotel Ramandolo, B&B Hotel, Hotel Friuli, Hotel All'Allegria and Suite Inn. Special University of Udine rates are available at most of them. Early booking is highly recommended!
Transportation
The city of Udine is connected via three nearby airports: Trieste (TRS, ~33-45km), Venice-Treviso (TSF, ~110km), and Venice Marco Polo (VCE, ~120km). From any airport, transfers to Udine are available by train, bus, or car.
The Trieste Airport train station is connected to the terminal by a covered pedestrian walkway. The train is the quickest and most convenient option, with a travel time of approximately 30-40 minutes to Udine. Alternatively, buses, private shuttles (such as GoOpti), or taxis are available.

Senior Participants: 200.00 Euro (early registration, before April 17th) - 240.00 Euro (delayed registration, until May 31st)
Student Participants: 150.00 Euro (early registration, before April 17th) - 180.00 Euro (delayed registration, until May 31st)
Guests: 120.00 Euro (until May 31st)
Registration includes lunches, coffee breaks and the welcome cocktail.
An extra contribution of 30.00 Euro is required for attending the social dinner.

Abstract submission Deadline
17th April 2026
The abstracts, not exceeding one A4 page and with the underlined name of the presenting author, her/his picture and a graphical abstract, should be submitted on-line at ... using the abstract form on the website.
Each work submitted as abstract will be presented orally, unless not requested. Oral presentations of 15 min including 5 min discussion are planned (final info will be provided when all abstracts are received).
In case an overwhelming number of submissions will be presented, the organizers reserve the possibility to run two parallel sessions of presentations.
English will be the official language at the meeting.
